Postcard from Cancun

Ok, so Cancun … I don’t love it. Yes, the sand is fine, the waters are blue and the sky is always bright, but it is too spring break-ish for my taste, and you know, a bit too commercial. I would much rather prefer Playa del Carmen, another popular Mexican destination, and Cozumel and Tulum, that have an undeniable charm.

That being said, Cancun makes for a perfectly decent Caribbean vacation. I found it to be quite safe, and very well connected with other cities in the area. Given I have been fluent in Spanish ever since high school and my Instituto Cervantes days, I got around very easily. If you want to explore outside your resort and are not comfortable with Spanish, tough luck, it’s a bit more difficult. You might not get too far due to the limited English skills of the locals. But learning a few basic sentences could make a world of a difference.

The theme of colorful architecture, beautiful ceramics and loads and loads of tequila continues on, as you may expect from a place like Cancun. I spent most of my time there trying on ridiculous sombreros and cheesy leather jackets, scouring ceramics and tasting tequila, which is why I don’t remember much else :)

Stunning Mexican sunset

I may have not loved Cancun, but as I parted, I witnessed the most incredible sunset. What do you think of Cancun?

Thank you so much, I always love hearing people enjoy my writing and/or photography. Mexico is great for a beachy getaway especially for those of us living in the US. Playa del Carmen, Cozumel and Tulum are even better - for different reasons, given they are in close proximity to Cancun.
