Argo and the Iranian hostage crisis

Last night, I went to see Argo. Not knowing much about the movie’s plot, I did not have any expectations. Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Ben Affleck proved to be not only a great actor, but also a skilled director.

The movie is based on the former Central Intelligence Agency operative Tony Mendez’s account of the rescue of six U.S. diplomats from Tehran, Iran during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis. I was not even born at the time, and so it makes sence that I knew little about the historical events. However, it turns out the release of the six US diplomats was held secret, better said of classified status for almost two decades. To protect the remaining 52 hostages in Tehran from further retaliation, all was kept under wraps until the mission was declassified and the details were made public in 1997.

So if you are looking for a good movie this weekend, to keep you on the edge of your seat, Argo is your best bet.
