In an homage to the 1960s and the era of Jean Shrimpton and David Bailey in We’ll Take Manhattan - the duo that created the legendary 1962 images for Vogue - New Zealand’s photographer Gavin Jaymes and I set out to shoot on the streets of New York, on a murky fall day. Building on our own interpretation of the past era in modern-day NY, we chose the stunning waterfront in Williamsburg, and the iconic Coney Island. Although a far cry of what it used to behold, Coney Island remains to this day a magical place, and a real piece of what New York stands for. We got caught in some heavy rain, which felt like an Alfred Hitchcock type of scene; but in the end, the rain proved to be a blessing in disguise.
PS - I did buy and eat those fries from the famous Nathan’s; and add cotton candy on top of that!
