I took advantage of last weekend’s dreary weather to have some hot tea inside NoMad Hotel’s library. I had to see it with my own eyes why trendy downtowners suddenly decided to shift their whereabouts onto Broadway and 28th St. Located in the newly appointed NoMad neighborhood (NOrth of MADison Square Park), in a former dingy area of questionable wholesalers and obscure souvenirs shops, the recently opened NoMad Hotel is housed in a magnificent turn of the century Beaux-Arts building, fully restored to its original grandeur with interiors by French designer Jacques Garcia (which you may remember as the mastermind behind Spice Market, as well).
The 168-room property is a collaboration of Andrew Zobler, developer of the Ace Hotel, and Will Guidara and Daniel Humm, the duo behind Eleven Madison Park, the restaurant said to be best in New York City at the moment.
“The hotel is intended as a fresh take on the classic grand hotels of Europe with a distinct New York sensibility. The design of the hotel was inspired by the Parisian flat of Garcia’s youth. The 168 rooms are residential in feel and decorated in his classic, timeless style. Each room is appointed with hand-selected, richly textured custom-designed furnishings and original artwork.”
As always, I did take my own photographs; however, after having seen NoMad‘s shots, I decided to forgo mine.
So, next time when I am in the mood to go to Paris, without taking the flight, and experience its grandeur, its rich brown hues, its velvet and damask textures, its vintage rugs, its dim lights, its inspirational mahogany writing desks, its rich linens and claw-foot bathtubs, I will know where to go.
