The Flapper Girl and the 1920s

As I mentioned it before in a previous post, I love everything about the 1920s - the fashion, the music, the decorating styles - and in particular the infamous flapper girl.

When it comes to fashion, women experienced a sense of liberation from the old-fashioned tight corsets and crinolines, breaking into shorter skirts, shimmery dresses and chic wavy bobs. Women now had a right to vote, to flaunt their cigarettes and be as bold as they wanted. Beads and sequin dresses emerged, pearls adorned their necklines, as well as fitted hats and fancy fur coats. The shoes, too, were one of a kind style.

I find the Great Gatsby style extremely elegant, and it reminds me of my own grandparents and great grandparents. Next time I will showcase some of their old pictures and fashions. Luckily, I still have some access to this piece of personal history.

With Robert Redford and Mia Farrow‘s 1974 The Great Gatsby and another one coming soon starring Leonardo di Caprio, it should be fun watching those trends again!

Do you love the 1920’s fashion? Is there a different era whose fashion styles you would absolutely love to wear?
